Too true. The absolute best thing I can do when I’m in a creative rut is get away from the computer. Going outdoors, or at least near a window, almost always helps bring about a fresh take or a new solution. Love it!

I enjoy this perspective. As the hobbyist, I reluctantly recognize the traits you describe. My aims at distinguishing myself instead as a “good hobbyist” is to work at a project in the aims of ultimately and confidently eliminating certain phrases from my vocabulary when describing the work. Phrases such as “Here’s a track I haven’t finished” or “I just threw this together” or “yes, you are seeing and smelling human feces.”

This post is really, really connecting with me–having unique talents, but not much confidence, avoiding arrogance, leery of self-promotion, believing that success will automatically follow earlier victories… I’m printing this out and letting it soak in. Hopefully this will be another spark to help me keep moving forward. And if I’m as good a songwriter as I sometimes think I am, maybe you’ll hear my name again someday soon.
